About the club

The Sharks were formed in 2022 and ran out for their first season in 2023, joining NRL Victoria's Storm Premiership and Storm Junior League — the Melbourne-based competitions run under the Melbourne Storm banner. It began with a come-and-try day at Ervin Reserve in October 2022: a junior skills clinic, a senior scratch match and a sausage sizzle, before the season kicked off the following April.

Rugby league had been tried in Geelong before but never quite stuck. This time a growing population and rising demand for the game across the region gave the club a stronger footing — in its first year the Sharks fielded under-10, under-12 and under-13 junior sides alongside a senior men's team.

The club shares Ervin Reserve with the Newcomb Cricket Club, an arrangement backed by council so the ground stays in use year-round. The City of Greater Geelong has since supported the Sharks with funding to plan upgrades to the Ervin Reserve precinct for its sporting tenants.
